The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) has marked the 2025 World Antimicrobial Awareness Week with a call to action on responsible antibiotic use and the fight against antimicrobial resistance, while highlighting the creativity and voices of young people in Ghana.
The week-long celebration, which took place from 18th to 25th November, on the theme "Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future." The programme comprised a range of activities, including staff engagement initiatives, community outreach endeavours, and scientific research presentations.
UGMC's staff participated in educational sessions, quizzes, and crossword puzzles designed to reinforce their understanding of antimicrobial stewardship. The centre also disseminated updated guidelines and protocols to ensure staff were conversant with current best practices.
Furthermore, UGMC extended its outreach efforts to the community, generating social media content and engaging with students through a poster colour competition. This initiative encouraged young learners to appreciate the importance of responsible medicine use.
The climax of the week's activities was a symposium, where a keynote speaker poke about the importance for research and stewardship efforts. The event also recognised the contributions of outstanding staff members and students who had participated in the various activities.an awards were given to the best art designs
